Set Yourself Up For Success
When submitting artwork for custom folders and packaging, a few key steps can make all the difference in achieving a polished, professional result. The FolderWorks™ prep team has compiled a top ten list of artwork preparation tips. These best practices help ensure smooth production, exceptional print quality, and guarantee the Best Folder Experience.

10 Tips for Prepping Artwork
1. Use FolderWorks Templates for Accurate Folder Layouts
Templates are available for all FolderWorks products and should be used to align artwork with die lines, folds, and other production specifications. You can check them out here:
2. Submit Vector Files for Professional Folder Printing
Vector-based formats such as AI, EPS, or PDF are recommended for print production. These formats maintain clarity at any size and are compatible with FolderWork’s systems.
3. Convert Fonts to Outlines for Print Accuracy
To prevent font substitution or layout shifts, all text should be converted to outlines before submission. This ensures consistent typography across platforms.
4. Ensure All Graphics Are Embedded
Any placed images must be embedded. Missing files can delay production or compromise the final output.
5. Convert RGB to CMYK for Accurate Print Colors
Artwork should be set to CMYK rather than RGB to ensure accurate color reproduction during printing. RGB (Red, Green, Blue) is used for digital displays and produces bright, vivid colors. However, when printing, RGB files are converted to CMYK (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Black), which can result in color shifts. Converting your design to CMYK before submitting allows you to adjust colors for accurate print reproduction.
6. Bleed Guidelines for Custom Folder Artwork
A minimum 1/8" bleed is required for designs that extend to the edge. Important content should be kept at least 1/4" inside the trim line to avoid cropping.
7. Use 300 DPI Images for Sharp Print Quality
Raster images should be at least 300 DPI at final size to avoid pixelation or blurriness in print.
8. Use 100% Black for Small Text Elements
For small text elements, use 100% K (black) instead of rich black to prevent registration issues and maintain legibility.
9. Proof Artwork Carefully Before Submission
Carefully review all artwork for spelling, alignment, and design accuracy before submission. Errors caught early help avoid costly reprints.
10. Contact FolderWorks™️ Early for Artwork Support
If there's uncertainty about file setup or specifications, contacting the FolderWorks prep team before submission can help prevent delays and ensure optimal results.
