Design with Confidence Using FolderWorks™ Templates
FolderWorks™ print templates are built to help you design smarter, faster, and with fewer revisions. If you’ve never worked with a print template before, the terminology can be confusing, but once you understand the basics, you’ll be able to avoid common mistakes and create polished, professional designs.
Bleed
What it means: The area that extends beyond the final trim size. It ensures your background colors or images reach the edge of the finished product.
Why it matters: Prevents unwanted white borders after trimming.
FolderWorks™ Tip: Always extend background colors and images at least 1/8" into the bleed area to ensure full coverage after trimming.
Safe Zone
What it means: The area inside the trim line where all important content should be placed.
Why it matters: Keeps logos, text, and key visuals from being cut off.
FolderWorks™ Tip: Keep all critical content at least 1/8" inside the trim line to avoid accidental cropping.
Trim Line
What it means: The line where the product will be cut to its final size.
Why it matters: Anything outside this line may be trimmed off—so design accordingly.
FolderWorks™ Tip: Use our templates to preview the trim line and ensure your layout stays clean and professional.
Fold Line
What it means: Indicates where the folder will be folded during production.
Why it matters: Helps you avoid placing text or images directly on a fold, which could distort them.
FolderWorks™ Tip: Avoid placing logos or small text directly on fold lines—they may shift or warp during folding.
CMYK
What it means: The four colors used in professional printing—Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, and Black.
Why it matters: Designing in CMYK ensures accurate color output.
FolderWorks™ Tip: If your artwork was created in RGB, convert it to CMYK before submitting. This helps avoid unexpected color shifts.
Resolution
What it means: The clarity of your images, measured in DPI (dots per inch). For print, 300 DPI is ideal.
Why it matters: Low-resolution images can appear blurry or pixelated when printed.
FolderWorks™ Tip: Always check image resolution before uploading—especially logos and photos. 300 DPI is the gold standard for crisp, professional results.
Die Line
What it means: The clarity of your images, measured in DPI (dots per inch). For print, 300 DPI is ideal.
Why it matters: Low-resolution images can appear blurry or pixelated when printed.
FolderWorks™ Tip: Always check image resolution before uploading—especially logos and photos. 300 DPI is the gold standard for crisp, professional results.
